So close! what to pack?

So...as of today we will be leaving in 10 days. Yikes! That's soon....like, really soon.
So, I started to pack this week. I am weird and have a weird way to the way I pack. I first make a list, don't look at it, and then throw things into my suitcase that I think I need to ease my mind a little bit and I take a break.

Then, I go back and actually go through it and then take out things I don't need and then justify why I need the other things. Our friend Caleb gave us a list of items which included,
1) Sweaters
2) LOTS of underwear
3) Lots of Socks
4) Beanies
5) Nice, warm Jacket
6) 2 Towels
7) Tennis Shoes
8) Sandals
9) Personal toiletries
10)Books
11) Anything else to bring when staying in the wilderness

So we are both allowed two checked bags up to 50 pounds and two carry on's. This may seem a lot, but...for me I feel like its not enough, but I can do it! I can pack for 1 through 10, but its hard for me to figure out what to do for number 11. So i packed 40 shirts (this includes tank tops etc)  and three pairs of jeans I can get dirty, hats, scarves, sweaters, because well I figured, the more clothes I bring, the less I will do laundry. Ha? or more? Oh my. I definitely packed  2 cans of big bug spray, that's good for a wilderness, maybe a mosquito hat? or a bug swatter? I am at the stage where everything it thrown into my suitcases, my list made, and now I just have to actually go through it, but I am such a procrastinator. I cant be for 51 days though....

And of course, Josh will pack the day of or day before, but I am trying to help him finish sooner than later :)
Oh the joy of packing, its a love-hate relationship...well more of the hate right now. That's alright, I will go over everything I need this weekend at be good to go next week!

Wish me luck...or pray for me.
I am getting more anxious...excited...nervous, but mostly excited.
It is actually sunny there right now, and Redding is rainy....so in that case, I am ready for the sun!

Alaska in...20 days!

So....it is true. Josh and I will be in Alaska this summer for roughly 51 days. We leave June 9th to August 30. We will be Commercial Fishing with a good friend of ours, Caleb Preston who has a family business there. Why you ask? Well…let me tell you the story of how this "Adventure" came to be...

Josh and Caleb always talk about Alaska and how it’s the "last frontier" and how we should move there; He said this jokingly of course to pick fun at me, because I would roll my eyes and say, "I will never live in Alaska" Josh knew this, but still thought it was fun to bring it up once in a while. (Thanks Caleb! ha)

Well, Josh came home one night in November and just briefly in conversation, mentioned, "What if we went for a summer in Alaska to fish with Caleb, wouldn’t that be fun?" This time i didn’t roll my eyes and laugh, I sat there and then said, "Actually, that could be fun, it would be quite the Adventure" Well, let’s just say Josh took and ran with that one statement. Immediately, He picked up the phone and asked Caleb to meet us at the grocery store to talk about it. Caleb was excited and mentioned, "Yeah, I would love to have you both there, it could be fun, and I need Josh out there"

When Josh and I came home, I laughed and said, "You don’t think we could actually do this, do you? What about your job, you can’t just leave for almost two months?" Josh replied, "If God wants us there, he will make all that work."

(Sidenote) I am currently not working and just finished credential classes at Simpson this April, and I don’t student teach till next January...so really, this adventure could really work out)

Well this is when Josh and I kept praying about it and we asked the Lord to show us if we were supposed to stay or go, especially about Josh’s job. Through a period of months, things fell into place and well, we decided at the end of February that we were going. Josh work basically said that he has to take a leave of absence, and cant guarantee a job when he gets back; We weren’t OK with risking his job...but we kept praying. Weeks later after talking it through, not only was his boss okay with it, but they gave him a raise. Praise the Lord, he confirmed that He is taking care of us and that this Adventure could be good for us.

Let me tell you, we are practically camping, for almost 2 months. I mean, I love camping, but this is going to be a stretching time for me. Josh and Caleb will be fishing for Salmon on a small boat (not anything like deadliest catch people, I would not do that!!) most likely 7 days a week. I will be Mrs. Camp Cook, up at 6am each day preparing meals for Josh and Caleb so they can have more time to fish. This will also be a challenge because I am not the best cook, and I am going to learn to be patient with myself.

However, despite these challenges, I am excited for a new Adventure with my Amazing Hubby. Seriously, we love to travel, we love making new memories, and I can’t wait to look back on this and remember this season of our lives. So....if you could just pray for us...we would love that.

I get to wake up every morning to the beautiful Alaskan Mountains and breathe in the fresh air and coffee in hand. I get to get a lot of alone time (which is hard for me because I am so social, and love being around people) and refresh my Spirit and Praise the Lord for everything he has given me. Yes...please!

Stay tuned...I will be tracking our Alaskan Adventure through this time. The best part is, I will have Internet and phone (a little on the slow side though) on this little Island Cove in the Prince William sound of Alaska. Enjoy!
